Giving a Bathroom Some TLC (Transformative Layout Changes)
Defining the Opportunity
Recently, we had the pleasure of transforming a client's bathroom when they approached us with their vision: they no longer needed the soaking tub but wanted a larger, more functional shower. This meant we needed to rethink the layout to maximize space and utility. Additionally, the existing vanities, mirrors, lights, and other fixtures needed to be updated, and an upgrade was required to match the new modern aesthetic the client desired. We immediately knew the perfect design elements to take this bathroom from a traditional setup with a soaking tub and a small, closed-off shower to a luxurious, spacious retreat.
Remodeling the Shower from Dated to Dreamy
The first step in the transformation was to remove the soaking tub, which was taking up a significant amount of space and the client didn’t want to keep. We were able to relocate and expand the shower area, making it the focal point of the bathroom. The new layout not only improved the flow of the space but also made it more practical for everyday use.
For the shower, we chose a stunning marble herringbone mosaic for the walls. This design element adds a touch of elegance, enhancing the feel of being at the spa. We also incorporated custom niches into the shower walls—two for storage, perfect for keeping toiletries organized, and one as a foothold for shaving, adding extra convenience and comfort.
Upgrading the Flooring, Fixtures, and Finishes
We replaced the flooring with a wood-look tile, which combines the warmth and beauty of wood with the durability and water resistance of tile. This choice complemented the marble shower walls and added a cohesive, modern look to the entire bathroom.
To contrast the color palette, we replaced all the fixtures with sleek, modern black options. This included new plumbing fixtures, mirrors, lights, and towel bars. The black fixtures provided a bold character accompanying the light marble and wood-look tile, enhancing the contemporary feel of the space.
Bringing It All Together
The two existing vanities were replaced with new, stylish ones that offer better storage and functionality. These new vanities are aesthetically pleasing and help keep the bathroom organized and clutter-free.
The result was a bathroom that perfectly balances form and function. The removal of the tub and the expansion of the shower have created a more open and airy space, while the new fixtures and finishes add a touch of modern elegance. Our client now has a bathroom that meets their needs and exceeds their expectations in terms of style and comfort.
