Sometimes, Two Isn’t Better Than One
Synthesizing Spaces
Our latest project transformed a cramped, outdated kitchen and dining room into a spacious, open-concept living area. The kitchen, still in its original state from when the house was built, had unappealing tile floors that detracted from its potential. The homeowners dreamed of a more open and inviting space where they could cook, dine, and entertain comfortably.
We removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room to achieve the homeowners’ vision. This structural change created an ample, open-concept space that immediately made the area more expansive and welcoming. We also added a kitchen island to enhance functionality and provide additional seating and workspace. Additionally, we opened up the wall between the kitchen and living room, creating a passthrough window. This design choice improved the flow between rooms, allowing for better home interaction and connectivity.
Dressing Up the Room
Our design choices in the newly transformed kitchen were carefully curated to enhance functionality and style. White kitchen cabinets provided a clean, classic look, brightening the space and serving as a timeless backdrop for future design elements. Adding a pop of color, we opted for beautiful blue hues for the island and coffee bar cabinets, creating a striking contrast against the white cabinets and infusing the space with personality.
Complementing the cabinetry, we selected a butcher block countertop for the island, adding warmth, texture, and practicality for meal prep and dining. Meanwhile, hardwood floors replaced the outdated tile, bringing continuity and elegance to the open-concept area. To add a modern flair, a funky hexagon tile backsplash with a randomized pattern became a captivating focal point, infusing the kitchen with character.
Delighting in the Design
The new kitchen is a place for cooking and a hub for family gatherings and entertaining guests. This project shows that having more rooms doesn’t always mean more space. By removing walls and making smart design choices, we created a bright, open, and functional space that homeowners can now truly enjoy.
