Old Town Harrisonburg Home Addition
A Fresh Home Addition
With Logan working from home and the arrival of a new baby, the family needed more space. They will have a new master bedroom suite, a larger living room, and an amazing deck for outdoor entertaining. They're using the house addition now and couldn't be happier.
The higher elevation of the master bedroom allows the couple to see the mountains and watch the sunset. It's a peaceful, quiet space with a nice view. Logan was originally concerned that the bedroom would feel too small, but now that the details are finished and furniture is in place, it feels like a much bigger room.
Extra Space for Comfort
The couple has their own master bathroom upstairs, along with a walk-in closet and a second bathroom for their children. Logan is happy to not have to fight over the sinks, and Annie loves having her own space where she can get ready in the morning. "I use the extra seating every day," she told Mint Construction. "It's wonderful."
Space Reflow Game-Changer
The room additions provide a reflow of space, which has been a game-changer for the family. They no longer have to go up and down two flights of stairs to do laundry. They have storage in the living area to accommodate all the toys, but the room is also an inviting location for adults. Annie feels like a load has been taken off her shoulders. "We can breathe. Everybody has their own space. It's made a difference in my life."
In the partially-finished basement, Logan is working to set up an office and rec space. He'll move his music equipment there and will work downstairs every day. Between the large new deck, the dream master bedroom, the spacious great room, and the new rooms in the basement, Annie and Logan finally have the home they've been searching for. Choosing to remodel instead of purchasing a new house was definitely the right decision for their family.

Let’s Look Back at the Previous Episode
To Buy or to Renovate?
Annie and Logan had been living in Old Town for over nine years when they realized their home "started feeling a little tight." They recently had their second child, and Logan began working from home. After house-hunting in the area, they quickly saw that their own house felt like home. They hired Mint to be their home addition contractor so they could add the square footage they needed.
Annie had always wanted a master bedroom suite, including a view of the mountains and extra storage. "Logan has never had a closet in this house, so I'm excited for him to finally have one." After reviewing master bath ideas, they decided upon a gorgeous en suite bathroom with a connected walk-in closet.
Creating Space for Everyone
They worked closely with Mint to come up with the best interior remodeling strategies for their family. Laundry will be moved to the main living area so that Annie no longer has to go up two flights of stairs to do a load of laundry. The great room will be expanded so Logan can keep an eye on the kids from the kitchen. "Our current living room is totally crowded," he noted. "We need something bigger and more modern."
A Home for Years to Come
The unfinished basement in this Old Town home had so much potential to be finished for Logan's professional space. Mint Construction settled on a basement design that could house both an office and Logan's music equipment. He was glad to be able to stay in the same home they bought together nine years ago. "Being able to keep it and make it better rather than moving into an unfamiliar house will be nice."
From the dream master bedroom to the large deck on the back, we're excited to see how this renovation project will look once completed.
